Flemish research centres imec and VITO (both partners in EnergyVille), together with industrial pioneers Bekaert, Colruyt Group, DEME and John Cockerill announced today that they are joining forces to invest in the production of green hydrogen. Under the flag of Hyve, the consortium aims at a cost-efficient and sustainable production of hydrogen at gigawatt level. Hyve will put the Flemish region in the driver seat for the deployment of a hydrogen economy and the transition towards a carbon neutral industry in Europe.
Last Friday, the naming ceremony was held for the mega cutter suction dredger ‘Spartacus’. The most powerful cutter suction dredger in the world, a vessel like ‘Spartacus’ has never been seen before in the industry. Water Board Rivierenland, the client and partner in this alliance, received funding for this through the Flood Protection Programme. It is a major and far-reaching operation in the area.
A prototype deep-seabed mining robot that had become uncoupled from a cable connecting it to a surface vessel has been successfully recovered from the floor of the Pacific Ocean. Patania II - GSR’s purpose-built prototype nodule collector - is currently being trialled in 4,500 m water depth in the Clarion Clipperton Zone (CCZ) of the Pacific Ocean.

Transmission system operator Réseau de Transport d'Électricité (RTE) has awarded DEME’s French subsidiary SDI an EPCI contract for the export cable that will connect the Leucate Floating Offshore Wind Farm to the power grid, in a consortium with JDR Cables. Once completed, Leucate will be one of the largest offshore floating wind farms in France.
DEME Offshore and Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd., Japan’s leading marine contractor, are delighted to announce that they have officially agreed to establish a Joint Venture to focus on the construction of offshore wind farms in Japan.
DEME Offshore and Sabca successfully performed a series of tests at the Rentel offshore wind farm in the North Sea, preparing for autonomous surveillance, rescue and detection missions in the near future. Their goal is to replace critical and ad hoc operations with autonomous aerial vehicles.
