What we do

Lekdijk

Challenge

As part of the Dutch High Water Protection Programme (HWBP), DEME contributes to the reinforcement of more than 20 km of flood defences along the River Lek in the Netherlands. The project covers two sections between Wijk bij Duurstede and Amerongen, and between Jaarsveld and Klaphek, representing a total of 20.5 km of dike reinforcement.

Delivered through an innovation partnership, the project combines large-scale construction works with detailed engineering and sustainable design choices. This collaborative approach allows sustainability, constructability and risk management to be integrated from the earliest stages, supporting the development of efficient and future-proof flood protection solutions.

The reinforced dikes will help protect communities, infrastructure and natural environments against rising water levels and extreme weather events, contributing to the long-term resilience of the region.
